Blu-ray Tutorial 6: Basic Blu-ray Authoring in Scenarist HDMV

I decided to record a tutorial on how to author menus in Scenarist HDMV. I’m not really a great author, but this tutorial goes over importing video/audio/menus, menu navigation, creating clips, creating streams, muxing, and emulating.

Hopefully this will give you a good enough idea of how Blu-ray disc authoring works and maybe give you a jump start on making your own discs.

Nice article to understand the basics!
Is it possible to build in some kind of “user-input” scan? What is want to do is the following. A video stands in a continue loop, but when the user pushes #1 button on his remote, the blu-ray has to jump to, lets say, title1, or chapter1…

    Hi,
Could you tell me what’s the software you are using to emulate winXp on your macbook?
    thanks

    Eric,
Sorry, I’m not sure if I can help you. I saw you posted the same question at bdjforum.com and got some responses, so if anyone is interested check there.

    Jé,
I’m using Parallels, but VMWare also makes a product that works well. You can also use Apple’s BootCamp which actually dual boots the computer. I’m thinking of switching to that.

    Hi
thanks for this tutorial. A question, but which version of the Scenarist BDA are you using? 4.3 or 4.5?
I have the 4.3 Version but the buffer pixel calculator in the IG editor tab, as seen in this video there isn’t.
If you use the 4.5 version because you MUI generator, sonic says (about 4.5 version) it’s not necessary.
Can I make a suggestion. Can I help you to create other tutorial video (as for example: a tutorial video to create a menu without the use of the .scenarist.designer file, because it doesn’t work)

  6. admin Says:

    I’m using 4.5.1 and 2.5 for Designer.

Where does Sonic say you don’t have to use the MUI generator? Everything I’ve seen says you have to use it.

If you would like to make a tutorial on how to make a menu without Designer, feel free and I’ll post it. I’m not going to make one because I wouldn’t know even where to start, and I have no interest in working that way as Designer works perfect for me.

What doesn’t work for you with the designer file? It works for me without any problems, and I know others have been successful with it.

  7. valerio Says:

    I’m sorry for mistake.
Excuse me but I have red wrong about “no use” of the MUI GENERATOR on the version 4.5.
    :-(
However about the video tutorial I’ll do it soon.
Thanks administrator about the information of the version that you’re using.
    Thanks.

    Hi Rey

In this tutorial you duplicate play item to loop a menu. What about settings a streams Playback Count? Shouldn’t this be the way to loop a menu or is there a bug in Scenarist?

    E

  9. admin Says:

Sonic told us to do that initially because of the pause that happens when it loops the menu, and because we had trouble getting it to stay on whichever page/button we had selected. In their knowledge base they suggest adding it in the clip 4 or 5 times set at seamless, then at the end have this command:
    PlayPL TopMenuVideoBackground[ID 1]
    JumpTitle TopMenu[ID 0}

As far as the Playback Count, I asked our authors about that and they said it doesn’t do what you think it would. I don’t really know what it does then. Is that how it works in Blu-print?

Again, I’m not really an author, I just do menu design and other theories, so I’m not completely sure what our solution ended up being. I think we used a LOOP label or something and sent it back to the label, or something like that.

  10. Eric Says:

Yeah. In Blu Print you can set the Play Back count up to 998 (just like adding 998 Play lists). I’m doing what you did in the first paragraph and it works fine. Sure wish I knew what that play count option does?

    Hi Rey
I did the video tutorial aboout the creation of a IG without the use of the “.scenarist.designer” file.
How Can I share it with you?
I realize this ttutorial with camtasia Studio. I hope that it’s OK.

Hello, thank you for the usefull tuto.
But I’ve a little question how to do a return to a page of a menu after playing a video??

I’ve find hox to link to the Menu after the play, but not a page in the menu?

    Thank you.

  13. Tobias Says:

Is it possible to get the Tutorial footage?

  14. admin Says:

How would you like it? Just in MOV? It’s possible to download it from the site if you “View Source” and search for the MOV files. Then copy and paste them into the address bar.

For example, this one is: http://blog.reykroona.com/videos/BlurayTutorial_5.mov

If that’s too complicated, I’m trying to get the download button in the player to work, but I haven’t figured out an easy way yet.
