Sonic has released a new software package called Scenarist QC 1.0. It’s currently in Beta form, so you know what that means.
It’s built off of CinePlayer but has a few features other players don’t have. The readme says it can create “watches” for BD-J code and has a full debugging environment that logs all sorts [...]

We are working on a photo gallery for a title and got this error when we tried to encode the file:
Error : The size of any line after coding exceeds the size of the line before coding (the ‘uncompressed’ line) plus 16 (for coding overhead). LINE=4, SIZE(rle_coded_line())=19640, SIZE(uncompressed_line())=13440
We had no idea what it could mean so [...]

There is a survey over at bdjforum.com that I took, and thought that I’d share along. It’s for a company that’s playing with the idea of making a new encoder that would work with Blu-ray. I figure the more companies we have making software like this for us, the better. It’s not real long, and should [...]

There is a new knowledge base article titled: Sonic Knowledge – How to – Create a BDJO using Scenarist HDMV. This article is for BD-J authors specifically.
Interestingly it requires Scenarist HDMV 4.5.2, which isn’t out yet. 4.5.1 is only a couple weeks old, so if this next version is coming out soon 4.5.1’s life will have [...]

This may not be news to some people, but I just found it. Author of DVD Demystified Jim Taylor (who works at Sonic) is apparently co-authoring a new book Called Blu-ray Demystified that will ship on September 12. It will be 432 pages long. I’m almost done with the Programming HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc and I’m excited to [...]

Doom9 user Malow posted a patch that might be useful for some people. What it does is make Scenarist default the CPI value from 3 to 0 so you don’t have to mess around with the XML project files when you make a new project anymore.
It’s for Scenarist 4.3 only as 4.5.1 has the built [...]

Just a quick note on something I had forgotten, the way Blu-ray players play back media on DVD-Rs is by physically spinning the disc at 3 times a normal DVD player. What this means is that now your bitrate can be increased to 3 times a normal DVD bitrate. That would be around 11 x [...]

We ran into an interesting issue with our latest Blu-ray disc today. It would play fine in our PS3, but in the S300 it would play the FBI logo, studio logo, and then crash the player. We used exactly the same authoring code on a previous title that worked without any problems. Scenarist didn’t give [...]

NetBlender released version 1.0.2 which removed the lock on the demo version that prevented you from burning BD-Rs and DVD-Rs. Hopefully it has some bug fixes as well.
They’ve also announced their first 3rd party “plug-in” (I guess you can call it that, I’m not sure what they are calling it or what exactly it does) [...]
