Blu-ray Tutorial 11: In and Out Effects

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

I got this tutorial from bluewin.ch about in and out effects. I’ve been meaning to post a tutorial on this but never got around to it, so this is kind of nice of him to do this for us. I think it does a good job of showing how the effects work.

Blu-ray Tutorial 10: HDMV Menus without .scenarist.Designer File

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

Reader Nobi from Italy recently requested a tutorial on how to make menus without the use of the .scenarist.Designer file. I suggested he make one and offered to host it here for him, and that’s what he did.
If anyone else is interested in making tutorials, I’d be happy to post them here for you.
So without further [...]

Blu-ray Tutorial 3 Part II: Multiple Pages Per IG

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I’ve been receiving a few emails about questions on designing/authoring menus, and I am happy to answer them to the best of my ability. Pitney, if you are reading this I’m working on yours. One I got today asks:
If I have multiple pages in the (Scene Selection, Special Features) do I use the script to import them [...]

Blu-ray Tutorial 8 Part II: Burning DVD-R for PS3 with Scenarist :: UPDATED

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

In tutorial 8 I explained how to burn a BD-R/BD-RE disc from Scenarist. Well what if you want to burn it to a DVD-R instead to save money on those BD discs? Well following the instructions from before won’t work in a PS3, though it worked fine in our S300 player.
So here’s what you do [...]

Blu-ray Tutorial 9: Multiple Buttons per BOG in Scenarist

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

This is my 9th tutorial on Blu-ray authoring. This time we go over having multiple buttons per Button Overlay Group (BOG). Now why would you do that? I asked the same question when I first started designing menus with Designer.
The main reason is for toggling buttons. In the tutorial we have a subtitle On and [...]

Blu-ray Tutorial 8: Burning BD-R/BD-RE for PS3 with Scenarist

Monday, May 5th, 2008

We recently found burning BD-R and BD-RE discs for the PS3 is a little tricky, but I think we got it working pretty well. The Drag-to-Disc software that comes with Scenarist doesn’t do everything that you need it to do. Here’s a quick and dirty explanation on how to get it working:
Step 1: In your [...]

Blu-ray Tutorial 7: Ripping Blu-ray Discs for Scenarist

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

So I know this may be in the “shady” area of authoring, but I think it’s something I should cover. We have a client who refuses to give us their logo in HD for the FirstTitle section of the disc. He says they don’t have one and want us to recreate it in HD. But [...]

Mini Tutorial Suggestions

Monday, April 28th, 2008

I’ve covered pretty much everything I initially wanted to go over regarding Blu-ray HDMV menu design. So my question is, is there anything that I went over too fast or didn’t go over that well? I would like to make some mini tutorials that wouldn’t be more than a couple minutes that would go over [...]

Blu-ray Tutorial 6: Basic Blu-ray Authoring in Scenarist HDMV

Friday, April 25th, 2008

I decided to record a tutorial on how to author menus in Scenarist HDMV. I’m not really a great author, but this tutorial goes over importing video/audio/menus, menu navigation, creating clips, creating streams, muxing, and emulating.
Hopefully this will give you a good enough idea of how Blu-ray disc authoring works and maybe give you a [...]

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Tutorial 5 is up, and this time we go over how to set up and use the HDMV Flash Viewer. It’s not super complicated, but does have a couple tricky steps. Basic knowledge of FTP and web sites is recommended.

Blu-ray Tutorial 4: Using After Effects to Create Animated Buttons with Designer

Monday, April 14th, 2008

The fourth tutorial is here. In this tutorial I go over using After Effects and Photoshop to create animated buttons for Blu-ray HDMV. The menus we create are pretty simple, but using these procedures you can come up with very nice looking menus.
Tutorial five will be on using my Flash HDMV viewer to preview your [...]

Blu-ray Tutorial 3: Basic HDMV Menu Using Photoshop and Designer

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

My third tutorial is complete, again as a screencast. This time I show how to create a basic one page menu for Blu-ray HDMV. It’s a little longer than the last tutorial and goes much more in depth with Sonic Designer. The next tutorial will be on creating multi-page menus with animation using After Effects [...]

Blu-ray Tutorial 2: Installing Sonic Designer PS

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

My second tutorial is up, this time explaining how to install the scripts and plug-ins for Designer. It’s pretty short, but I think it will help explain everything a little easier.
It’s on my Mac, but almost the same instructions can be used on a PC.
